The process of generating ideas and establishing regional projects with which the Center for development of the SOUTHWEST planning region will apply to domestic and international donors in the next program period began through a forum discussion of the concerned and significant parties from the Region. First of all, in accordance with the obligations arising from the Law on balanced regional development and other normative acts, at the regional level, in addition to today’s, the second regional forum will be held at the end of November, after which it is expected that project applications will be made which, during on February 2023, will be submitted for approval to the Ministry of local self-government, i.e. the Bureau for regional development.
– According to initial information, the total budget for regional projects in the Southwest planning region is expected to be around 54 million denars. These funds, which are allocated from the national budget, will be intended to address the priority needs of the nine municipalities, that is, the citizens and other significant entities at the regional level. The program is for two years, ie for the year 2023/24, which means that the implementation of the projects will take place in the mentioned period.
At the first regional forum session, over 50 participants determined the following areas as priorities: tourism and culture, education and the social sphere, communal and local infrastructure, environment, and especially the needs of solving the problems with the energy crisis. The mentioned areas are, in fact, part of the program determinations resulting from the national and regional development documents. At the same time, more than twenty ideas were presented, for which, in the next period, it is expected that an analysis will be made for their justification and sustainability, which is of particular importance for donors.
At the end of November, the most sustained ideas will be presented, and for which, during December 2022, i.e. February 2023, complete project applications will be prepared with the mandatory technical documentation and calculations, and with which the application will be made to national and international donors. The mayors, that is, the nine members of the Council for development of the SOUTHWEST planning region, will also be involved in the entire process of selection and decision-making for the projects.
