The Mayor of Municipality of Ohrid, d-r Kiril Pecakov, at today’s regular session, was unanimously elected as the President of the Council for development of the Southwest planning region with a mandate of one year, in accordance with the Law on Balanced regional development. Thanking the election, Dr. Petsakov emphasized that the crisis moments faced by the local self-government units in the country have not been resolved and in that sense it is necessary to mobilize all subjects in order to overcome the problems in their functioning, as well as in the improvement the quality of services to citizens, both by the municipalities, but also by the municipal companies.
In that sense, d-r.Pecakov assessed as positive the role of the Council and the Center for development of the Region, through which important regional projects that improve the conditions of the population are implemented. At the same time, D-r Pecakov mentioned that he will be open to cooperation in order to get as many funds as possible and to implement projects, especially in rural areas because they have limited funds and are not in the same situation as several larger municipalities in the Region.
At today’s regular session of the Council for development, the list of regional projects with which the Center for development will apply to domestic and international donors during this year was determined. In that direction, the procedure of selection and determination of the projects that will be applied at the Bureau for regional development has already been completed. It is about three projects that will improve energy efficiency in all nine municipalities in the Region through the installation of photovoltaic panels and the reconstruction of public buildings, and the local road infrastructure will also be improved. The total value of the projects is about 56 million denars, funds provided in the central budget of the state.
Currently, through the Center for development, projects are being implemented in Makedonski Brod, Kichevo and Debar, and the start of the reconstruction of the hospital for cardiac diseases in Sveti Stefan is expected, for which a grant was received from the Ministry of local self-government and the Swiss agency for development and cooperation.
