The employees and patients at the Sveti Stefan Hospital for Cardiology in Ohrid have already felt the effects of the reconstruction works. According to the director of the institution, Dr. Elena Kovačeska – Bashuroska, oil consumption has been significantly reduced, and currently it is enough for the central heating to be in operation for two to three hours during the day. The fact that heat is not lost in the building is significant, despite the fact that the thermal insulation of the facade is not yet fully completed is significant. The employees are satisfied with the work of the contractor on the facade part of the building, because as they point out, they have much more favorable working conditions with the works.

– From the Center for development of the Southwest planning region, which coordinates the project, is expected to be fully completed in about a month. In parallel, work will be carried out on the roof of the facility, with interventions first being carried out in the attic structure, and then a new roof will be installed. These works are expected to reduce the total costs for the hospital by about 30 percent, primarily for heating, but also for electricity and water consumption.

If the weather conditions in the coming period are favorable, the work on the complete reconstruction of the hospital is expected to be completed in about three months, allowing the facility to receive an energy passport. About 15 million denars have been invested in the reconstruction of the hospital, with the majority of the funds received as a grant from the Swiss Confederation and the central budget of the state, with the hospital and the Municipality of Ohrid also participating. Part of the funds will be allocated for the purchase of new medical equipment, as well as software solutions that will improve daily administrative work and monitoring of patient history.

The hospital reconstruction project has been approved to the Center for development of the Southwest planning region within the framework of the Grant scheme for investment projects by the Swiss agency for development and cooperation and the Ministry of local self-government.
